Plug-In Solar Safety & Installation Notice

Please read before connecting or using your system.

Plug-in solar is designed to be simple to use, but it still relies on the condition of the electrical installation it is connected to. The system is factory-limited to a maximum AC output of 800W. At 230V this is approximately 3.5A.

Before you connect the system

  • Use a standard UK wall socket that is in good condition and securely mounted.
  • Do not use extension leads, multi-way adaptors, trailing sockets or damaged or loose sockets.
  • If used outdoors, the socket and connection must be suitable for outdoor use and properly weather protected.
  • Do not modify the inverter, plug, cable, connectors or factory power settings.

When we recommend an electrician check

Before first use, OmniOrigin recommends that you are satisfied the socket, circuit protection, earthing and general condition of the household wiring are suitable. A qualified electrician should check the installation if:

  • the property is older or the wiring has not been inspected for many years;
  • the consumer unit or fuse box is old or its condition is uncertain;
  • the socket is loose, cracked, discoloured, damaged or becomes unusually warm;
  • there are known electrical faults, repeated tripping, buzzing, crackling or a burning smell;
  • you are unsure about the earthing, protective devices or previous electrical alterations.

Important

The age of the building alone does not determine whether plug-in solar is suitable. An older property with modern, well-maintained electrics may be perfectly suitable, while a newer property with damaged or poorly altered wiring may not be. The condition of the electrical installation is what matters.

STOP USING THE SYSTEM AND SEEK ELECTRICAL ADVICE if the plug or socket becomes excessively hot, smells of burning, buzzes or crackles, discolours, becomes loose, or repeatedly trips an RCD, MCB or other protective device.

Simple rule

Safe product + sound electrical installation + correct use = safe plug-in solar.

This notice provides general safety guidance only. It is not an electrical installation certificate and is not a declaration that any particular property, socket, circuit or product installation is compliant or suitable. If in doubt, obtain advice from a qualified electrician before use.
